Students relay to fight cancer

Last Friday, April 17, from 8:00 p.m. until Saturday morning, April 18, at 8:00 a.m. Clarkson students gathered for the annual Amercian Cancer Society Relay for Life. Students raised money within their groups to support cancer research and spent the night walking around the IRC track as well as playing games such as basketball, volleyball, and dodgeball.

Clarkson University has always prided itself on its personal approach to teaching and learning. For several years Clarkson University's Student Association (CUSA) has been the backbone to achieving just that. However CUSA has improvements to make. After Jennifer deCoste (Associate Vice President of Institutional Diversity Initiatives) came to talk about the importance of CUSA's diversity to reflect that of the University.

Drunk driving lesson
A Massachusetts driving instructor was intoxicated while giving a driving lesson. Daniel Winsky received eighteen months of probation from the incident, which occurred in December of 2007. Winsky also loses his license for one year. Winsky was not operating the vehicle, but had passenger side brakes in the driver instruction car.

Office observed the above subject fail to stop at a stop sign, and the subject's vehicle to have an inadequate exhaust. Further investigation revealed that the subject has a suspended license.

T. Collins at Sigma Chi roast

Nishikawa began with a discussion of the initial "small world" experiments. These network-model experiments birthed the "six degrees of separation" phenomenon.

Last weekend, the Society of Professional Women (SPW) hosted the SUNY Canton Zen-do Kai Martial Arts Association. Sensei and instructor David Guccione, with his wife Lisa and assistants, led a women's self-defense workshop for 11 female members of SPW. The workshop was an incredible display of techniques, with gatherings to reflect on what it means to be aware of yourself and of your surroundings.

Beer: ClarksOwn Brew

For the final beer review of the semester, I was given four bottles of a homebrew recently made by one of my buddies, he actually had a name for this one too, ClarksOwn Morning After Brew. The style is a brown ale, which generally are anywhere from reddish to very dark brown in color and are quite malty, many using coffee or nuts to enhance the flavors and aromas of the brew.

A car show for the common man may suggest merely a collection of family sedans, midlife crisis cars and the ever-ubiquitous hot hatch; however, the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS) has more in store for the average visitor. Held at the Jacob Javit's Convention Center in New York City, the show amidst the recession car manufacturers are shelling out little cash to produce new vehicles; if the price of oil were high, but the economy was in good shape, it would be 2007.
