On September 22, this past Thursday, both Cheel and the Educational Resource Center were packed full of representatives from 99 different companies, all of which were looking for prospective interns or employees. Both the scouts and the students looked into the large mass that made up this event with both hope and apprehension, the more opportunist of the lot taking this to their advantage.

Clarkson offered 20 spots for students from Gulf area universities after the damages of Katrina had been realized; five students have decided to take Clarkson up on their offer. Many alumni have graciously made donations to help these students with the cost of travel, books, supplies, and medical insurance.

Following the 99 companies that attended the Career Fair, ten recruiters took time out of their day to sit on two five-person panels, Friday, September 23. The "Job Search Jump Start Panels" were divided up into two sections, "What are Employers Looking for in a Successful Candidate? Resumé and Interviewing Tips" and "Evaluating Job Offers - Comparing Benefits, Factors for Considerations, etc.

Last Monday (September 19) at CUSA, the guest speaker was Kathryn Johnson, Vice President of University Outreach and Student Affairs. Johnson spoke about the draft of their new strategic planning document and about how she wanted to have more student input.

Hurricane Rita carved a new path of destruction along the Gulf Coast on Saturday, crushing buildings and flooding vast regions but thankfully falling short of the calamity inflicted by Hurricane Katrina.
At least, so far. Emergency managers worried about monumental problems well inland as the rain-engorged storm lingered over Texas, Arkansas and the Mississippi River Valley.

For those who have not noticed, Clarkson University has been working on a memorial on Cheel lawn for some time now. This memorial is made of steel salvaged from the collapsed twin towers. The memorial will honor all victims of the 9/11 tragedy, but more specifically the four alumni of Clarkson that were taken on that day.

On Wednesday evening and Thursday afternoon, sixty-seven members of the Class of 2009 came out to vote in the Clarkson University Student Association (CUSA) Senate Run-Off Elections held at the base of the stairs to Empire Diner in the Quad.
This time around, the Class of 2009 was guaranteed to select a Class Vice President, as the Run-Off Elections were necessitated due to no one receiving forty percent of the vote in the regular Freshmen and Clarkson School Elections.
