It was a rough night for the Clarkson Men's Hockey team. With two wins under their belt, they yet again faced defeat making them 2-2 for wins and losses thus far.

Early into the first period, Clarkson showed their strength but were surpassed by UMass, resulting in a few penalties to the Knights while trying to overpower the Minutemen.

Five minutes and thirteen seconds into the first period, the Minutemen, lead by junior Matt Anderson, scored the first goal out of many for the night.

Well into the first period, UMass freshman Alex Berry was sent to the locker room and given a five-minute penalty for hitting from behind and unsportsmanlike conduct, which was served by junior Obi Aduba.

The first period ended with the score being UMass one with eight shots on goal and Clarkson zero with thirteen shots on goal.

The second period started out with an uproar from Clarkson fans when, four minutes and thirty-three seconds into the period, UMass scored. This caused an uproar of jeering from the crowd because the goal being a disputed one that was deemed good, even after the scoreboard flashed "NO GOAL."

Not long after, Clarkson junior Jamie McKinven received a five-minute penalty for hitting from behind; the penalty was sat out by number twenty-six, freshman Mike Willemsen. With seven minutes remaining in the second period, UMass scored their third goal of the night, leaving the final score for the second period at UMass three with twenty shots on goal and Clarkson zero with twenty-two shots on goal.

The defense of the UMass Minutemen seemed unwavering with their fourth goal of the night coming in at only three minutes and forty-seven seconds into the third period. When it seemed that UMass defense was unfaltering, Clarkson freshman number two, Philippe Paquet from Quebec City, Quebec, scored the first goal of the night for Clarkson, lifting the spirits of the fans. This was the very first goal for Philippe Paquet as a Clarkson Golden Knight. Minutes later, Clarkson scored again but was denied the goal due to another disputed call by the referee.

With only minutes remaining in the period, Clarkson pulled their goalie to get full offense on the ice, which proved to be a wise move. With only ten seconds remaining in the period, Clarkson sophomore number thirty-two, Nick Dodge, scored the second and final goal of the night. After a quick time-out called by Clarkson, the teams were as fierce as ever while the final ten seconds ran out leaving the final score UMass four and Clarkson two. Up next for the Knights will be a weekend of exhibition games against Western Ontario on Friday, October 21, at 7:00 p.m. and USA-Under 18 team on Saturday, Saturday 22, at 7:00 p.m. Both games will be home in Cheel Arena.
