Despite an early goal for Clarkson University, both the conditions of the game and field quickly worsened for the men's soccer team Saturday afternoon. The Golden Knights stood at 2-1-1 in the Liberty League, good for third place, while the St. Lawrence University Saints occupied second place with a record of 2-0-2. It was a perfect opportunity for Clarkson to pick up ground on the Saints with hopes of a postseason appearance.

The Knights got off to a great start just 5:12 into the game. Following a foul thirty yards out from the Saints' net, Clarkson was awarded a free kick. After sophomore Joe Eisenhauer stepped over the ball, junior Justin Crowley sent a groundball blast to the right corner past a diving Emilio Coletta. The Clarkson lead would not last for long, as St. Lawrence was able to tie the score at the 16:12 mark. Nick Mangee sent a cross from the left side and Elliot Savitz was able to head it home past Clarkson junior keeper David Hennessey. Clarkson had more opportunities go to waste before the Saints struck again, this time with Chris Lonegan doing the damage. The Knights were looking to escape the first half tied with St. Lawrence and regroup on the sidelines. Instead, Lonegan sent another head ball past Hennessey with just 3:13 remaining on a service from the left side by Savitz. Clarkson now found themselves trailing 2-1 in a game that initially looked to be in their favor. Crowley, however, nearly tied the game with just four seconds left in the half. After battling with defender Steve Watson, Crowley sent a left footed shot past a diving Coletta who was off of his line. The ball, however, went just wide, nearly skimming the right post, and the signal sounded for halftime.
