After a tough loss against Mercyhurst College the previous day, the Clarkson University (CU) women's hockey team looked to bounce back in their Saturday afternoon rematch. Instead, it was eighth-ranked Mercyhurst completing the weekend sweep with a dominating 6-0 victory over the Golden Knights.

While the two teams appeared evenly-matched early in the contest, the Lakers soon began to assert themselves. After several scoring chances were thwarted by CU goalie Kira Hurley (nine saves), Mercyhurst broke through at 11:11 of the first period. Coming off a scrum in front of the net, freshman Courtney Unruh knocked home a rebound for her first collegiate goal. Freshman Valerie Chouinard and sophomore Stephanie Jones were credited with assists.

It did not take long for the same trio of Lakers to strike again. At 14:55, a scrum once again occurred in front of the Clarkson net, and once again a rebound was driven past Hurley, making the score 2-0. This time it was Chouinard scoring the goal, with Jones and Hurley getting the assists.

Barely a minute passed before Mercyhurst once again extended their lead. With CU on their collective heels, junior Julia Colizza took a pass on the left wing and hammered in a slapshot for her first goal of the season. Assists went to junior Sarah Kurth and senior Danielle Lansing. The goal made the score 3-0, and the first period ended with the same score. Despite a pair of penalties, Mercyhurst's domination was evident in the fact that they had more goals (three) then CU had shots (one).

At the start of the second period, CU coach Rick Seeley pulled Hurley from the game, replacing here with back-up goalie Stephanie Hansen (19 saves). CU started the period with multiple threats to score, including a breakaway blocked by goalie Laura Hosier (eight saves). Hansen, meanwhile, acquitted herself well to the ice, making several outstanding plays minding the net.
