The Clarkson Theatre Company, founded 74 years ago at Clarkson University, will be presenting R.U.R: Rossum's Universal Robots at the downtown Snell Hall Auditorium (across from the Potsdam Civic Center). R.U.R was written by Karel Capek in the 1920's; the play added to the Oxford English Dictionary the word "robot" derived from the Czech "robota."

In the three-act symbolic fantasy R.U.R., the main character Dr. Goll manufactures robots which can feel pain, thus resulting in the robots replacing men as workers. When wars begin to break out, the robot formula is burned and all but one human is killed. The play's enfolding raises a number of questions about the world's future. R.U.R: Rossum's Universal Robots, employs elements from science fiction and fantasy, and is not very keen on portraying everyday life.

The play is directed by Tony Tambasco a Potsdam State Alumni, who has previously successfully directed Three Penny Opera among others for the company.

The performances are from October 27 to 28th at 8:00pm and on the 29th at 2:00pm and 8:00pm. The tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for students and senior citizens, children under 12 are free. The play promises to be entertaining and ideal for the entire family.
