Friday night, as the hockey game was coming to a close, a benefit concert was held to raise money for Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.

First to take the stage was Chris Whalen with just his guitar and his voice. He played cover songs by such bands as The Dave Matthews Band and similar artists. Though his set was short, and the audience was just beginning to filter in through the doors of Cheel Commons, Chris put on a great performance. His voice was exceptional, and with only a microphone and a guitar, his vocal talent was apparent.

Immediately following Chris was school favorite Up North. The band played many of the same songs from their last performance in Cheel Commons. By this time, the room was full, and though many audience members stayed for the whole night, the crowd was noticeably larger during Up North's performance. Though the first time this author was in attendance of an Up North show, she was unimpressed, this time the band seemed to play a better, stronger performance. They seemed to "get into it" much more this time around. "Perhaps last time they were not having an 'on' night," commented an audience member. For Friday night, they seemed "on," passionate, and worth seeing again.

After Up North, audience members were invited to eat pizza and drink soda provided by Clarkson. Everyone seemed to be enjoying the night, and as the Clarkson University Dance Team cleared the front to put on their performance, audience members settled down again to watch.

The Dance Team consisted of four members, all wearing black, with a sparkled gold belt. They danced to such songs as "Yeah!" by Usher and "Lose Control" by Missy Elliot. Their dance moves were original, fluid, and well practiced. A few of the dancers were really getting into their performance, and this author was personally impressed by not only the moves, but the professionalism of them. The Dance Team seemed well put together, and the audience gave them a round of applause following their performance.
