Coming off a pair of losses to Mercyhurst last weekend, the Clarkson University Women's Hockey team needed to get back to their winning ways and did so with a solid 2-0 win over Wayne State Friday night in Detroit.

Clarkson started off the game on Friday on the wrong foot, picking up a penalty in the first minute. However, the Warriors earned a penalty just fifty-three seconds later, leading to a 4-on-4 match up that saw the Golden Knights score the opening goal at 1:35. Junior Christine Bailkowski scored her first goal of the season and 12th of her career on a pass from sophomore Katie Morrison. The assist was Morrison's second of the season.

The Golden Knights would continue to hold off the Warriors with their one-goal advantage until picking up an insurance goal at 11:17 in the third period. Junior Andrea Maluta cored her first goal of the campaign and only the second of her career midway through the third period to give the Knights a 2-0 advantage.

Clarkson controlled play through most of the game and enjoyed a shot-advantage in each period, out shooting Wayne State 9-4 in the first period, 8-7 in the second, and 9-6 in the final period for a total of 26-17.

Junior Kira Hurley was strong in goal for Clarkson, stopping all seventeen shots by Wayne State for her second shutout of the season and the ninth of her career. Valery Turcotte made twenty-four saves for the Warriors. The Golden Knights improved to 3-2 overall on the season while the Warriors dropped to 0-4-1 on the campaign.
