The words "open road" conjure dreams of what driving across America used to be. Big rumbling engines, drinking cheap gasoline and pulling four wheeled luxury yachts, windows down, as they roamed the highways of the continent. Two lane roads traversed the hills and plains. The sun always shined down on open fields as gentle breezes stirred the grasses into waves rolling as far as the eye could see. All of this could be achieved with a few dollars in your pocket, filling your gas tank for cents per gallon.
These are the images of the once great open road. Gone are these times, but the dreams that have enchanted Americans for decades live on. The roads and breezes remain and the sun still shines over field and plain. The grand touring cars have been replaced by SUVs, economy compacts, and minivans. And those few dollars in your pocket will barely fill your tank with more than a gallon or two. However, the dream carries on.
It carries on in a new line of vehicles, a new future for the American adventurer. For those who still want to live free and roam the countryside at will there are ultra-efficient hybrid vehicles like the new Saturn VUE. As they cruise the highways of this nation, their quiet engines purring smoothly along, sipping gas only every few miles. Their owners, driving with light feet, are free to take in the full beauty of the open road much as it was before. Less constrained by fuel costs and pollution woes, they venture in search for their destiny and delight under the shining sun. Crossing mountains, fields, and plains, they need only a few dollars in their pockets to have many miles left in their tanks.
