For many parents, the only Clarkson hockey game they will see all season is the parents' weekend game, and this year they certainly got their twelve dollars worth. Clarkson played host to Wayne State University again for the Saturday game after defeating them on Friday, and once again the Knights were victorious. The Knights thoroughly destroyed the Wayne State Warriors 7-1 in a very one sided game to bring their overall record to 4-2.
The game was not only exciting to watch but provided an opportunity for a number of Knights to really shine. The well deserved first star of the game was Kyle McNulty, who made twenty-five saves in goal and only allowed one past. A number of other players also had great games with a bunch getting their first goal of the season. The scoring started slow but built into a frenzy as the game went on.
The Golden Knights struck first towards the end of the first period with a power play goal by Steve Zalewski, his first of the season. The Warriors answered with less then thirty seconds left in the period on a 4-3 power play to even the score.
The second period started with a lot of effort by the Knights, and they were rewarded with a power play goal by Nick Dodge just over two minutes in. This opened the flood gates with Shawn Weller then picking up his fifth goal of the season just three minutes and thirty-eight seconds later. Then a short two minutes and nine seconds later Mike Sullivan picked up his first goal of the season pushing the Knights ahead 4-1. The second period also showed McNulty's competence minding the net with him shutting down a number of attempts by Wayne State to close the gap. After an amazing job dealing with particularly exciting breakaway, even the parents could not resist giving him a well deserved standing ovation.
