The Golden Knights fell victim to another early goal, but the Clarkson University men's soccer team was able to salvage a tie Tuesday against Potsdam State. Clarkson now stands at 3-10-3 overall while Potsdam finishes their season at 3-9-6. Clarkson has one more game remaining this weekend when they travel to Plattsburgh State on Saturday.
Sean Rumney put Potsdam on the board early in the game when he scored on a pass from Cager Mackaravitz just 11:44 into the match. Early goals have been a problem for Clarkson this season but they would not let that deter them from answering in the second half. Just 4:13 into resumed play, sophomore Nick Kulp fired a direct kick from near midfield that was misjudged by Potsdam keeper Tyler Lattimore. The ball skipped off of his hands for Clarkson's lone goal of the game. The remaining minutes of regulation saw no further tallies from either team as overtime approached. Two extra ten minute sessions was not enough, however, as neither team was able to score despite Clarkson's four shots and six from Potsdam. Junior Greg Dunton was in goal for the Knights in the first half, stopping six shots in forty-five minutes. Sophomore Johnathan Rushing relieved Dunton of his duties for the second half, recording five saves while playing the final forty-five minutes of regulation as well as the two ten minute overtime periods. Lattimore had six saves for the Bears while playing the entire game.
