The second period featured the best possible start for the Knights as they increased their lead to 3-1 just twenty-three seconds into the period. Cayer tallied his first goal of the game, and third and fourth points, when he put a cross ice pass from sophomore Nick Dodge past Hooper. The Warriors were not about to quit, however, as they answered at the 6:19 mark when Derek Bachynski fired a shot from the right face-off circle and through the pads of Leggio, bringing Wayne State to within one goal with 13:41 to play. Bachynski was assisted by upperclassmen Cannon and Steve Kovalchik. Not content with a one goal advantage, Clarkson quickly answered Bachynski's goal with one of their own. Just 1:18 had elapsed when Cayer struck again on a one-timer from the right side, assisted again by Dodge. The remainder of the second period passed with no further scoring but Leggio did preserve the lead making a great glove save while the Knights were down two men due to penalties. Wayne State did increase their offensive efforts as they out shot the Knights twelve to seven to no avail while Clarkson continued their offensive efficiency.

The third period saw just one goal that came from Clarkson, sealing the win for the Knights. With 6:48 remaining in the game Weller posted his second goal of the game after being assisted by Dodge and Guthrie. Weller's wrist shot deflected off of a Wayne State defender and past a helpless Hooper who was the victim of a screen in front of his net. Clarkson thwarted one final power play by the Warriors despite a couple of quality chances by Wayne State. The visitors from Detroit, Michigan again out shot the home team, seven to four, but were unable to convert. The Knights improved to 3-2-0 overall with the victory while the Warriors fell to 0-3-0 on the young season.
