The Clarkson University women's hockey team pushed their ECAC Hockey League record to 7-3 and their overall record to 15-7-1 against visiting Yale University. The Golden Knights were looking for a bounce-back game following a disappointing 1-0 loss the night before to Brown University.

The outcome of the game was in question early as the two teams traded shots in a game with good pace and a steady flow from end to end. The first period expired leaving the 242 fans on hand with a scoreless game and neither team with an apparent advantage. Clarkson held a slight lead in shots on goal with twelve to Yale's ten.

Just 5:08 into the second period, junior Ashley Shaidle struck on a power play for the Knights and scored what would stand as the game-winning goal. Freshman Kimberly McKenny fired a shot from the left side that was deflected into the air to the right side. Shaidle was able to grab the puck out of the air, drop it to the ice, and put it past Yale goalie Sarah Love and just inside the right post. Clarkson had numerous opportunities to pad their lead, but the acrobatics of Love saved Yale from an increased deficit. With just under twelve minutes remaining in the second period, sophomore Katie Morrison, freshman Sophie Doyon, and junior Christine Bailkowski all fired shots one after the other, but Love was able to save the puck under her back after a sprawling effort. The remainder of the period passed with no further action despite a total of twelve shots by the Knights and seven for the Bulldogs.

The third period saw junior net minder Kira Hurley open the action with a great save one-on-one with Yale forward Deena Caplette, who had gotten free on a breakaway. The offensive output from both teams dropped in the final period of play, as the Bulldogs posted just two shots while Clarkson managed seven attempts on goal. Yale played the final eighty seconds of the game with no goalie in a desperate attempt to tie the game but to no avail.

The Clarkson women will continue their homestand with a 7:00 p.m. game time next Friday against Colgate University. Following that match-up will be a bout with Cornell at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Knights have five games remaining in their seven-game stretch at Cheel Arena. The Knights are currently third in the ECAC standings trailing both St. Lawrence and Harvard by just two points. The women are ranked ninth in the nation, but that could change next week when the revised rankings are released on Monday.
