As part of the new proposed Master Plan, the parking lot between the ERC and Moore will be removed and replaced by an open green. That is one of the most obvious changes to the campus in the plan, on display this week at the info desk. The plan is the result of a studied look at the way the campus is used by both pedestrians and cars. It includes ideas from the previous master plan, recent campus decisions, and ideas proposed by the Sophomore Honors class.

ERC-Moore parking lot, referred to as the "East Quad" in the previous master plan, would be the perfect spot to add green space, because students walking from most of the on campus dorms (New Dorms, Moore, the Quadrangle, and the Pit) walk through it on the way to the Science Center and Snell. This commuter lot parking would be relocated to the lots alongside the Science Center, behind the ERC, and next to CAMP.

The road along that parking lot would be turned into a footpath, going from a loop in front of the President's house to a traffic circle near the Quadrangle. The footpath would act as an emergency road, much like the other paths on campus.

The traffic circle near the quad would potentially alleviate one of the most dangerous intersections on campus. Currently, the intersection combines roads from Moore, Reynolds, the service entrance to S.A.S., and Brooks. With the new parking plan, the traffic circle would connect the footpath from Moore to the service entrance to S.A.S and the road coming down from Cheel/Brooks. The intersection would be disconnected from the Quadrangle parking lot.

The employee parking along the Cheel/Brooks/Ross road would be eliminated under the plan as well, to be replaced with trees. The row of parking closest to Cubley/Reynolds will become employee parking only. The Quadrangle parking lot would also be extended down the hill alongside the road from the Quadrangle to Hamlin/Powers, adding 52 new parking spaces.

The plans also call for footpaths alongside the upper Cheel parking lots. This was one of the suggestions highly recommended by the Honors class, because a lot of tours go through the parking lot, and because a lot of students have to walk through the lot as well.

On the other side of Cheel, between Cheel and CAMP, another parking lot is proposed with 85 new spaces to begin with, and a possible 82 more spaces. Right now, the area is just a forest.

Near Woodstock, the entrance road is to be moved so that it is straighter. However, the entrance road will not lead to the Woodstock parking lot. The road between them is cut off. There is a shortcut to the parking lot alongside the Science Center, though.

In the Woodstock Parking lot, a new entrance from one of the roads off Clarkson Ave. is proposed, as well as the addition of 111 parking spaces.
