Over the next two months, the CUSA Senate will be offering many opportunities for you to become involved.
First and foremost, the CUSA Senate is always seeking to expand the membership on the Senate to new people who have never run before. The process is pretty simple; there are three tasks that have to be done to run for a Senator seat. The first is to stop by the CUSA Senate Office on the ground floor of Cheel Campus Center and pick up a CUSA Elections Information Packet. You can also print off a packet online from the CUSA Senate's website, http://cusa.clarkson.edu, by going to the Elections Committee page. Then, you need to get twenty-five signatures from the members of your Class. A lot of people have obtained their signatures from members of their courses during the week without much difficulty. Lastly, once you turn in your signatures, get ready for the Meet the Candidates Night on March 30, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the CUSA Senate Room, second floor of Cheel Campus Center.
Now, hopefully you want to know more about the Senate and how you are involved. The CUSA Senate is the governing body for many clubs and organizations at Clarkson, and its members serve on many external committees to bring a student voice to the administration, working together to find solutions to improve Clarkson. Senators on the CUSA Senate in addition to participating in the weekly Senate meetings on Mondays at 7:00 p.m. are also on two Senate committees which meet once a week for half an hour to an hour. These committees deal with club constitutions, club finances, issues on campus and in the academics, working with ARAMARK to improve on-campus food, the public affairs and the operation of CUSA elections, just to name a few tasks the CUSA Senate takes on each year.
In addition to the CUSA Senate looking for you to join the Senate as a Senator, the CUSA Senate is also conducting an Executive Board Debate on Thursday, February 23, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Barben Rooms, second floor of Cheel Campus Center. Make sure to make this on your calendar, as it will be the only public opportunity to ask the candidates tough questions on their views of the issues you are truly concerned about on campus, and how they plan to as Executive Board members work on your behalf.
