Clarkson Dominates in Win Over Potsdam But Loses on the Road to SUNY Geneseo

A dominating start led to a 14-5 victory for the Clarkson University Lacrosse team over Potsdam State Wednesday afternoon on the Bears' artificial turf field. The Golden Knights, who scored three times in the opening four minutes, jumped out to a 4-1 lead after the first quarter and held a commanding 10-1 advantage at the half.
The Bears (3-3) outscored the Green and Gold 3-1 in the third quarter, but Clarkson turned the tables in the fourth frame by out scoring Potsdam by the same margin over the final fifteen minutes to record its sixth straight win over its cross-town rivals.
Freshman Greg Gibbons scored four goals, while senior Brian Hanlon tallied three goals and three assists to power the Knights' offense in Clarkson's second victory of the year. Freshman Corey Reinhart chipped in with two goals.
Junior Nick Lavdas anchored Clarkson's stingy defense and recorded a game-high six groundballs along with scoring one goal. Senior captain Bryan Johnson and freshmen Cory Schneider, Erik Hilfinger and Brian Hoey also scored goals in Clarkson's most productive offensive outing of the season.
The Knights out shot Potsdam 41-19 and held a 22-16 advantage in groundballs.
Freshman Eric Wolery made nine saves through 56:41 of play. Junior Brian McClure, who closed out the game in the Clarkson goal, did not face any shots through the final 3:19 of action.
A quick start by eleventh-ranked Geneseo State put the Clarkson University Lacrosse team in an early hole, and the Golden Knights could never recover as they lost 11-4 at Hantz Field on Saturday afternoon.
Geneseo (4-1) scored three times in the opening five minutes and cruised to a 5-1 lead at the half. Geneseo out scored Clarkson 5-0 in the third quarter before the Knights showed life in the final frame with three goals.
Senior captain Bryan Johnson scored two goals for Clarkson, while senior Brian Hanlon and freshman Cory Reinhart tallied one goal apiece.
Geneseo out shot the Knights 35-21, including an 8-2 margin in the opening fifteen minutes. Geneseo also controlled groundballs 33-26 and won 14-of-18 faceoffs.
Freshman Eric Wolery started in goal for Clarkson and made eight saves on eighteen shots through thirty-six minutes of play. Sophomore Greg Lamb played the final twenty-four minutes in the Knights' net and posted seven saves on eight shot.
At 2-4 overall, Clarkson plays at eighth-ranked RIT on Wednesday, April 5 in its next action.
