Lady Knights Win Ninth Straight Over Potsdam Bears 11-6 But Are Defeated by Skidmore Thoroughbreds 16-1

Bolstered by its best thirty-minute stretch of the season, the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team defeated cross-town rival Potsdam State 11-6 at Clarkson Field on Tuesday afternoon. Behind a stingy defensive effort and a productive offensive outing, the Golden Knights jumped out to a commanding 7-0 lead at the half en route to their ninth straight victory over the Bears.

Junior Lindsey Grigg paced the Clarkson attack with four goals, while senior Lindsay Roberts and sophomore Alicia Chace chipped in two goals and two assists each.

The Knights ran their lead to 9-0 early in the second half on Chace's second goal of the game before Potsdam finally got on the scoreboard with 24:39 remaining on Kristen Jacobs' score. Roberts sandwiched her two goals around the Bear's second score by Kelsey Shoen to give Clarkson an 11-2 lead with just over eleven minutes left to play.

The Bears scored the final four goals of the contest to make the game appear close on the scoreboard.

Junior Emily Cohen, sophomore Rachel Kopels and freshman Emily Bojarski rounded out the Clarkson scoring with one goal apiece.

Alisha Schaad led Potsdam with two goals. Liz Clohessy and Erin Felicia also scored for the Bears.

Clarkson held a slight 23-22 shot advantage over Potsdam and also led in groundballs by one, 34-33. She also picked up six ground balls along with sophomore defenseman Lindsay Walker.

Lorraine Villa made two saves in the first for Potsdam, while Gabe Cloonan posted three stops in the second half for the Bears.

The first weekend of road play in the Liberty League was a rough one for the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team as the Golden Knights dropped two games in New York's Capital District region. On Saturday, Clarkson was overwhelmed by Skidmore College 16-1 in Saratoga Springs.

The Thoroughbreds (7-1, 3-1) jumped out to an 11-0 lead before freshman Alyssa Breed scored the Knights' lone goal late in the first half. Skidmore added one more before the break to hold a 12-1 lead after 30 minutes.

Skidmore out shot Clarkson 34-9 and controlled groundballs 27-17.

Freshman Amy Simpson made eleven saves in goal for the Knights.

Clarkson, at 3-5 overall and 0-4 in the league, hosts St. Lawrence on Tuesday, April 4 at 4:00 p.m. game at Clarkson Field. Next weekend, Clarkson will travel to Hamilton College on Saturday, April 8 at 12:00 p.m. in Clinton.
