James Manaro, Senior VP of Finance and Administration, presented the budget for 2007, saying that it will be challenging because of increasing energy costs, health insurance coverage, and enrollment competition. $300,000 was set aside for marketing, development strategy, new advertising, and updating the website.
Clarkson is looking to reduce energy consumption by testing a hybrid vehicle, reducing heat overnight, using fewer vehicles, and upgrading lighting.
Senator Connor has looked into laundry contracts and stated that Clarkson will eventually be switching to card-operated machines, though the time frame is uncertain.
$100 was granted to the Physical Therapy Club for Relay for Life and $250 to the RA program for a step show, both out of the circumstantial contingency budget. CUB was granted $1,000 from the club contingency and $1,000 from the capital expenditure budgets for SpringFest.
The NYS Fire Inspector cited Clarkson six times for garbage in Woodstock, costing Clarkson $1,500. The students responsible may be charged if they are identified.
The motion brought up in the Faculty Senate to disband the Greek system was discussed. CUSA Advisor DeRitis said that the administration will be looking at social life on campus and hopes to encourage other opportunities. Senator Lobdell stated that the Chair of the Faculty Senate and President Collins will send a letter to the faculty, asking them for questions about the Greek system and will provide them with information.
