Knights swept by St. Cloud

A long road trip to the Midwest got off to a rough start for the Clarkson Men's Hockey team on Friday night in Minnesota as St. Cloud State blanked the Golden Knights 4-0.

After a scoreless first period, St. Cloud got on the scoreboard just twenty-three seconds into the second, converting on a flurry in front right after the face-off. The Huskies struck again to start the third, with another strong rush off the period-opening face-off making it 2-0 just twenty seconds into the final frame. St. Cloud connected for its third goal just four seconds after the Knights had killed off a five-minute major penalty. The Huskies made it 4-0 with an empty-net tally with fifteen seconds to play.

Junior goaltender David Leggio made a season-high thirty-eight saves as Clarkson was out shot 42-24. Junior Shawn Weller had a team-high eight shots for the Knights including several opportunities in close that were turned aside. The Knights were 0-of-2 on the power play while the Huskies went 0-of-3 with the man advantage, including a five-minute major.

Golden Knights lost again to St. Cloud State University, 7-2. St. Cloud scored two goals late in the first period to start Saturday's contests and made it 4-0 with a pair of power-play goals early in the second, scoring on the man advantage at 41 seconds and again at.

Junior captain Nick Dodge put the Knights on the scoreboard for the first time of the weekend, connecting off assists from junior David Cayer and senior Mike Sullivan for a power-play tally.

Sixty-two seconds later, however, St. Cloud regained the four-goal advantage on Nat Dey's first goal of the season. The Huskies sandwiched a pair of scores late in the middle frame around sophomore Dan Tuttle's third goal of the season to complete the five-goal victory.

St. Cloud out shot Clarkson 34-32. Senior Kyle McNulty made nineteen saves on twenty-five shots through thirty-four minutes of play. Junior David Leggio posted eight saves over the final twenty-six minutes.
