Censorship: it's no question that it's all around us and is involved in our lives in one way or another. So what's the point of the censoring of material that's presented to the public? Protection. There are a lot of people out there with various opinions on what should and shouldn't be allowed in the public, as well as what people should hear in the media, and this disagreement creates conflicts and opinions. Sometimes we have to ask whether censorship is at all effective in society.

There is a lot of material in the world that some people do not wish to see or request to see. Most censorship laws are put into place because of these inappropriate materials, primarily to protect the youth. However, there is still a lot of material out there in the digital world that are not appropriate for the younger generations and yet they can access it.

Mostly extreme violence and all pornographic material are prevented from being viewed in the public media, but there are groups that say there is still too much violence and sex on TV and censorship should be increased. The FCC which is an independent government agency takes great precautions in determining if controversial media is appropriate for the public to view or hear.

Not everyone is happy with certain choices made by the FCC in keeping content clean on public media. There are however, steps people can take in protecting the younger generation from viewing material that parents or guardians don't want them to view. Technology in the world today allows for parental control on television. Guardians can also explain to youths about some of the content that is viewed in the media.

The government and FCC allow for people to choose what they want to view. Society just has to take precautions and make their own good judgment on if what they are viewing is appropriate for the populous within the vicinity. Censorship is affective; we just have to make right choices to what we do.
