Freshman Genevieve Lavoie is quickly making a name for herself here at Clarkson. The first-year player from Quebec recorded her second hat trick of the weekend and third of this season. Her offensive production was enough on its own, propelling the Lady Knights to victory over Brown, winning 4-1.
The opening minutes of play were the only ones that did not go well for the Knights Saturday afternoon as Rylee Olewinski put her own rebound home just 1:52 into play, posting the Bears to a 1-0 advantage. Senior Stephanie Hansen, however, buckled down after that, stopping a total of twenty-three shots.
Lavoie got Clarkson on the board with 12:28 remaining, sending a wrist shot over goalie Nicole Stock's shoulder and under the crossbar. Classmate Britney Selina and sophomore Kimberly McKenney both assisted on the play. Lavoie was not finished in the period, tallying another goal at the 12:49 mark. Lavoie successfully redirected a shot from the point by McKenney with Carlee Eusepi also assisting on the play.
As they were in the first period, shots on goal were even again in the second period. But once again the scoring was not, as Clarkson came out of the second period with another goal while holding the Bears scoreless. Just over eight minutes into the second period, senior Lauren Lubrano tallied her second goal of the season when she deflected a shot from the top of the circle, increasing the Knights' lead to 3-1. Eusepi and Lavoie were in on the play, each picking up assists.
Lavoie got into the books once again in the third period, completing her hat trick unassisted with just thirty-four seconds to play. The freshman maneuvered through the defense and converted against Stock, much to the delight of those in attendance.
The Lady Knights finished the game with a 29-24 advantage in shots and converted on two of their six power play opportunities. Clarkson hosts a two-game series with Niagara University next weekend at Cheel Arena followed by a four-game road trip over Christmas break. The Lady Knights improved their over all record to 10-6-2 and 5-4-1 in ECAC play.
