The Men's Hockey team in the month of December easily defeated every opponent they faced. In the four games before the students returned to Clarkson, the Men were 4-0 defeating cross-town rival St. Lawrence, the current National Champion Wisconsin, Lake Superior, and McGill University.
In the St. Lawrence game, the Golden Knights defeated the Saints 3-1. Goalie David Leggio had thirty-one saves for the win. Shawn Weller scored the first goal of the game with Steve Zalewski and Captain Nick Dodge assisting. The second period was quiet for both the Saints and Knights with neither team scoring. Travis Vermeulen evened the score for the Saints with an unassisted score. However, Shea Guthrie soon responded for the Knights, increasing the lead 2-1 for Clarkson. Michael Grenzy assisted in the second goal of the game for the Knights. Shawn Weller cemented the win for the Knights with the third goal of the game on an empty-netter with Max Kolu assisting.
A couple weeks later, the Knights traveled to the Badger Showdown The Knights trounced the Wisconsin Badgers 6-2 in the opening round of the tournament. Captain Nick Dodge had a hat-trick for the Knights with Michael Grenzy adding two. Chris D'Alvise added another goal for the Clarkson Golden Knights in the win. Badgers Jake Dowell and Andy Bohmbach added the only two goals in the loss. Goalie David Leggio had twenty-nine saves in the win for the Knights. The next day, the Knights faced Lake Superior again for the third team this season in the championship round. The Knights defeated them for the second time 3-2. Shawn Weller, Captain Nick Dodge, and Shea Guthrie each scored in the win. This was the first holiday tournament championship win since 1995.
The Knights returned to Cheel Arena to face McGill University in an exhibition game. Louis-Simon Allaire scored the first goal for McGill. However, Clarkson responded in the second period of play with Steve Zalewski scoring. Shawn Weller and Matt Beca assisted in the goal for the Knights. The tie was quickly over with Bill Arsenault again giving McGill the lead, 2-1. But with a power-play opportunity, Clarkson tied the game. Michael Grenzy scored while fellow Golden Knights Mike Sullivan and Chris D'Alvise assisted. The tide of the game soon completely turned over to the Golden Knights with Dan Tuttle scoring the third goal of the game, to increase the lead. Chris D'Alvise had his second assist of the game. Shawn Weller scored the final goal of the game to make the score 4-2. Knight Kyle McNulty had eleven saves in the win and Tim Potter replaced him in the final minutes of the game and he had three saves.
