Clarkson has other sports besides hockey

I may love Clarkson, but I don't love hockey, which may seem like blasphemy to most die-hard fans. As a member of The Integrator for the past three and a half years and, I suppose, more importantly because of my role as Editor in Chief, I feel sorry for the state of our paper concerning our sports coverage. Hockey can only satisfy a small portion, so where did Clarkson's other sports go?
I dream of having issues filled with solely student written content, which proves to be very difficult (and if you think otherwise, you should try it!), especially when it comes to sports. Everyone is eager to cover hockey, but I don't want just hockey!
Our largest problem on The Integrator is the fact that we're always so understaffed. We've never been lucky to have a staff writer who was well versed in every sport in order to have student coverage on every sport. I'm not sure we could even find one person who would want to cover every sport every week. I find myself only willing to cover soccer, although now Chris Fohlin covers games, as he is more experienced and qualified for the task. I am only willing because I've played the sport and can follow games. I don't feel qualified to write about a sport which I know nothing about, which is true about most members of the staff.
The entire Integrator staff wants to cover every sport, limit the amount of needed Clarkson Athletics articles, and give other D3 sport teams the recognition that they deserve. In order to do so The Integrator would like to extend the invitation to students who would like to help the current staff cover other sports, by writing articles or taking photos.
It is true, whether the die-hards believe it or not, that there are more students who prefer other sports rather than hockey than just me. I'd rather be supporting a soccer team and watching their games any day than going to watch hockey. That's why I feel that it is so important that we express our need for sports writers that have an interest in baseball, volleyball, swimming, soccer, lacrosse, basketball, and even club sports! We need to appeal to the entire campus and not just the D1 population. Hockey shouldn't be the only name for Clarkson's school pride-all the sport teams should be equally recognized.
