Ever wonder what your favorite athlete is like off the ice, off the field or off the court? The time has come to get to know your Knights! This week I got to sit down and spend some time with Brodie Rutherglen, Jon Marshall and Tyrell Mason of the Men's Hockey Team. After a basketball shoot out, second and third answers, and so much laughter, here is what I managed to get out of those ever-so-funny guys:
Q) Why did you get involved in hockey?
Brodie: "My mom wanted me to play hockey and my dad wanted me to ski so I pretty much started both at a young age; living in Canada definitely influenced me too."
Jon: "I had played a lot of sports along with hockey but hockey really became important to me and I was on the ice just about every day."
Tyrell: "Since I was five years old I've been a fan of the Edmonton Oilers and I think I was three or four years old when my parents asked me if I wanted to play hockey; obviously I said yes."
Q) Are there any other sports you play?
B: "Soccer, skiing and motor cross."
J: "Baseball, soccer and lacrosse."
T: "Soccer and lacrosse when I was younger; I also enjoy golfing."
Q) What is your favorite part about being a hockey player?
B: "Being on a team with the guys and all of our road trips."
J: "Becoming a family with the team and just doing what I love."
T: "Fulfilling my love of the sport."
Q) Favorite memory of hockey?
B: "Beating Cornell in the ECAC finals."
J: "Scoring at home against SLU."
T: "Last year against Cornell in the playoffs, and Peewee Provincials when I was younger."
Q) What do you think of the hockey team this season?
B: "We're a close, talented, hard-working group and if we keep it up, good things are bound to happen."
J: "We are hard working, but we just need to stay focused."
T: "There is definite depth in the roster and if we work our opponents we'll be successful due to the talent we have."
