Regardless, Friday's game kept the fans on the edge of their seats. The game itself started out calmly and seemed to grow more aggressive with each shift. Early in the first period, the two teams seemed to be testing the ice. Later, an all-out war seemed to ensue.
The calm was all smashed when Clarkson scored the first goal of the night. Thirteen minutes and thirty-two seconds into the first period, Melissa Waldie sent her seventh goal of the season into the back of the Mercyhurst net. Britney Selina got the assist as Clarkson moved up to a one nothing lead. Less than five minutes after Clarkson's goal was scored, Mercyhurst retaliated with a goal sunk into the back of the Clarkson net. At the end of the first period, the two teams were even: the score was one to one.
When the second period started, the women were ready to go. The second held both teams scoreless, so the one to one tie continued. In the third period though, less than three minutes in, the light behind the Mercyhurst net lit up, signaling a goal. The Clarkson fans cheered, until the referees waved off the goal due to a high stick. The Knights were not to be defeated though and soon came back to score their second goal, only a few minutes later. Britney Selina scored unassisted to regain the lead for the Golden Knights.
It was all looking good for the Golden Knights, until Mercyhurst came back to score their second goal. The third period ended quickly as play began to speed up. Overtime resulted in even faster play, but the extra five minutes proved to gain no advantage for either team. The game ended in a 2-2 tie, with both teams awaiting their chance at revenge the next day.
