Clarkson's first power play opportunity came at 4:49 thanks to a call against Jeff Anderson for slashing. The Knights had a good run for about a minute and a half, but they were unable to find the back of the net during the man advantage. Clarkson's next power play came at 15:17 with a call on Jean-Francois Boucher for interference. During the power play, Yale's Sean Backman had a strong breakaway, but Clarkson's senior goalie David Leggio made the save by deflecting the shot. The end of the first period came with the scoreboard empty.
Clarkson's Shea Guthrie was called at 1:00 in the second period for high sticking, giving the Bulldogs their first power play opportunity. The crowd was tense as the referee had to review a play that could have possibly given Yale a goal, but after a few minutes Clarkson fans were relieved as Yale was denied the goal. Leggio made another amazing save as he juggled the puck between him and a Yale player, but he managed to grab the puck and prevent a goal. A penalty was called on Clarkson's Tom Pizzo at 9:47 for boarding, but the defense stayed strong again to prevent a Yale goal. The Golden Knights scored the only goal of the game at 13:53. Senior wing David Cayer was credited with the goal, and assists were awarded to junior Chris D'Alvise and Pizzo. Two penalties were called against Clarkson towards the end of the second period, forcing the Golden Knights to enter the third with thirty seconds of 3-on-5 play.
The Golden Knights escaped Yale's power play opportunity unscathed. Through the last ten minutes of the game both teams were tiring out as they battled it out. For the last 31 seconds of the game the Bulldogs pulled their goalie in an effort to tie the game, but the Golden Knights defended their goal and came out the winner, earning two more ECAC league points and remaining undefeated at home.
