The Democratic Candidates

Hillary Clinton

Hillary Clinton was born on October 26, 1947 and is a Methodist from Illinois. She has degrees from Wellesley College and Yale University Law School. Clinton started her career as an attorney in Arkansas and later became a partner in the firm. She became the first lady in 1993 when her husband, Bill Clinton, became the forty-second President of the United States. Clinton is the first first lady to be elected to the U.S. Senate and is currently in her second term as a New York State Senator.

Senator Clinton has been looked at as one of the "more experienced" candidates. She believes in abortion rights and has supported Bush in his immigration reforms. Although Clinton originally voted for military use in Iraq, she would have voted differently if she "knew what we know now." Clinton now believes in de-authorizing the Iraq War. When it comes to the topic of same-sex marriage, she supports civil unions and believes that states should decide upon the issue. Clinton has opposed Bush's plan on Social Security to divert payroll taxes into private retirement accounts. She has also opposed extending tax cuts through 2010.

So far Clinton has raised $90,935,788 in fundraising. A few celebrity supporters include Danny DeVito, Tom Hanks, Tobey Maguire, and Paul Newman. Currently, she is in first for the Democratic Party, with 210 delegates. Clinton has won Michigan, Nevada, and New Hampshire.

Barack Obama

Barack Obama was born on August 4, 1961 and is a Christian from Hawaii. He has degrees from Colombia University and Harvard University. He has taught law at the University of Chicago Law School and was an Illinois state senator for eight years. In 2006, he won a Grammy Award for the best spoken album. Obama has also been the author of three books. In one of them, his autobiography, he confessed to using marijuana and cocaine as a teenager. Obama is currently in his first term as an Illinois State Senator.
