The Clarkson Golden Knights Women's Hockey team convincingly won Friday night's game against the Colgate Raiders while on track for sole possession of fourth place in the ECAC standings. Marie-Jo Gaudet, Melissa Waldie, and Jessica Cloutier all cashed in goals to put the game out of the reach of Colgate University and make the final score 3-1.

The first period was primarily controlled by the Knights as they were able to outshoot their foes 10 shots on goal to 6. As the first period was brought to an end, Marie-Jo Gaudet ripped an angled wrist shot, strategically deflected into the back of the net, for her 13th goal of the season.

Freshman Melissa Waldie, made a case as to why she is such an impact player for the Golden Knights by not only assisting Marie-Jo Gaudet, but tallying an unassisted goal of her own in the third minute of the second period. This gave Waldie her 14th goal of the season and another reason why she is one of the best freshmen in the conference.

To put the game away, Jessica Cloutier put one away in front of the net as team Captain, Katie Morrison, was credited for the assist in the 18th minute of the third period.

Goalkeeper Eve Grandmont-Berube managed the other team's score with 23 saves. At the end of the day, Colgate forced 23 Clarkson saves in front of the net, while Clarkson forced 22 Colgate saves, letting shots fly on Clarkson's goal excessively, especially in the 2nd period. Grandmont-Berube weathered the storm quite well, making some freakish saves throughout the game. However, her shutout was cut short by a Colgate power play goal late in the second period by Jacquie Colborne.

Work was not cut out for these women as they narrowly out shot their opponent the entire game, 25-24. All three goals were obtained with even women on the ice, leaving Clarkson 0/7 on the power play. On the other side, the Knights allowed Colgate to skate for 6:58 of power play advantage, allowing 1 goal out of the 6 power play opportunities.

The Women's Knights rebounded terrifically from last Saturday's loss to Harvard, which should propel them into the winning direction. This hard fought win over the Colgate Raiders sealed a fourth place standing in the ECAC with a 15-5-3 overall record, and a 6-2-1 conference stand alone record.
