Marie-Jo Gaudet scores hat-trick in 4-1 win over Cornell

The Lady Golden Knights finished a sweep of an ECAC competition weekend with a 4-1 win Saturday afternoon against the Cornell Big Red. Junior wing Marie-Jo Gaudet led the way with a 4 point game which included her first ever hat-trick. Sophomore wing Genevieve Lavoie had a 3 point game with a goal and two assists. Senior center Brooke Beazer added two assists of her own as her line scored 9 points and all 4 goals. With the win the Knights improve their overall record to 16-5-3, 7-4-1 in league play, and gained sole ownership of fourth place in the ECAC standings.

Despite being outshot in the first period 11-7 the Knights struck first as Gaudet scored her first goal as she was able to lift a loose puck over the Cornell goaltender. Lavoie and senior defenseman Amanda Dittmer earned assists.

Late in the first period freshman Courtney Olson was called for hooking. The carryover penalty proved costly as Cornell tied the game with a goal 19 seconds into the second period. The tie did not last long as four minutes later Gaudet scored her second goal of the game. Again battling hard in front of the Cornell net paid of as she was able to free the puck from underneath the goaltender and put it into the back of the net. Lavoie and Beazer earned assists.

Later in the second Clarkson was able to take a commanding two goal lead as Lavoie tallied her 8th goal of the season when she fired a rebound past the Cornell goaltender. Gaudet and Brooke Beazer earned assists. Gaudet earned her hat-trick at the end of the third as she stole the puck and was able to allude the defense long enough to slip it into the empty net with a little under 30 seconds left in the game, destroying any chance of a miraculous comeback by the Big Red.

Freshman goaltender Eve Grandmont-Berube played very well, stopping 26 of Cornell's 27 attempts to earn the win.
