"Saturday morning." Normally those words make me think of sleeping in, and enjoying my nice warm bed until at least ten o'clock in the morning.

For some that doesn't happen, but for the majority of the campus, it's a well-known and appreciated fact: weekend mornings are quiet, peaceful, and, of course, relaxing.

By these standards, last Saturday morning was a complete disaster. At about seven o'clock in the morning, I was rudely awakened by a rash of chaotic shouting in my hallway.

My first reaction, after I swore under my breath, was to reach for the alarm clock, then to process whether or not the fire alarm had gone off. Then my head began to clear and I realized the truth: a band of sorority sisters were walking up and down my hallway screaming at the top of their lungs, waking everyone on my floor.

Yet, no one said anything.

That single sorority came and went, but as soon as I began to fall back into a sleepy daze, another round of yelling, even louder this time, began rumbling through the floor.

They came again and again. I don't think there was more than ten minutes of quiet time between seven and eight in the morning. My roommate and I couldn't believe it. We looked at each other in shock as they just kept coming, round after round.

Yet, we didn't say anything. We sat there and tried not to bother their sacred Greek ritual.

I understand that bids are important and that the Greek community is incredibly excited about ushering in their new members. I understand the need to find a time when pledges will be in their rooms.

My one question, my one request, is a slight change in the time. Wouldn't it be just as easy to go around singing at ten instead of seven? Would it really be that hard simply to tell the pledges to be in their rooms at a certain time if they're interested in receiving a bid?

To be honest, the timing of seven or eight o'clock in the morning is not only incontinent for those rooming in the same hallway, but also breeds disgust for those not interested in pledging that year.

To be honest, I'd thought about pledging for a short time, but after the events of last Saturday, inclination to pledge any sorority has almost disappeared.
