The Clarkson Men's Hockey team headed all the way to Colorado Springs, Colorado to face off against the Tigers of Colorado College. The Knights lost both games to the Tigers, who were ranked sixth in the nation before the weekend. The Golden Knights were ranked ninth in the country and first in the ECAC. Clarkson still leads the league with two points over Cornell. Colorado College maintains a perfect home record for the season.
The first goal of the weekend was scored by Clarkson's Chris D'Alvise, less than two minutes after the first period began. Colorado tied the game at 12:49 on a goal from Scott McCulloch. Just over four minutes into the second period, Clarkson pulled ahead again when David Cayer scored on a breakaway off a pass from Brandon DeFazio. The Tigers boosted their offense and managed two goals before the end of the period, to finish the second period leading by one goal.
The Tigers came back and scored two more goals to finish the game 5-2. Clarkson's David Leggio made a season-high 37 saves, and the Golden Knights were outshot 42-17.
Saturday night's game ended in a 6-1 loss for Clarkson. Junior Tyrell Mason scored Clarkson's only goal less than one minute into the third period. The Golden Knights were unable to score on their only power play opportunity, while Colorado scored two of their six goals on power plays. Leggio left the game halfway through the second period after making nine saves on fourteen shots, and sophomore Tim Potter took his place, making his third appearance of the season. Potter allowed one goal and made eighteen saves.
The Golden Knights will return to Cheel this weekend to face off against Cornell on Friday and Colgate on Saturday. Cornell trails Clarkson by two league points, and they'll be fighting to redeem themselves after the Golden Knights beat them at Lynah Rink on Jaunary 20. Then they'll be on a four-game road trip, then back to Cheel for their last two regular-season games at the end of February.
