There are many questions floating around regarding this year's Springfest. This article should have come out sooner, and for that I apologize.
For the past few years CUB has run two surveys to try to get the campus climate as to what type of act the student body would prefer. The first one finds the split between music and comedy, along with the preferred genre. The second one lists specific artists which are then ranked by the students taking the survey.
This year we ran the first survey and found that the general consensus was that music, specifically rock, was preferred over comedy. While making up the second survey there were some issues and mistakes that delayed getting the survey out. By the time it was finally ready to go, we had run out of time. Running the survey would have made it extremely difficult to find a decent available act.
I then talked to our agent, who sent me a list of the available bands in our price range that he thought we would be interested in. I also looked at the results from the surveys for the past three years. Comparing the two lists I found that one of the bands that had been in the top five for the past three years was available. Bringing this up before all of CUB, we decided to send them a bid for doing a show here.
The band has accepted the bid, and we are now in talks with them about the details of the contract. I want to stress that until we have a final signed contract things are still subject to change. Once everything is locked up with the band we will begin to look for other acts to open the show.
So the end result is that this year's SpringFest will be held on Saturday, April 19 in Cheel Arena, featuring Dropkick Murphys.
If anyone has any questions that they would like answered about any of this, then please feel free to send an email to CUB at cub@clarkson.edu. Put SpringFest in the subject line and, as long as it is constructive, I will send a reply to your message.
