Day of the Clarkson curse
February 19: A dangerous day for all
Robert Dora
Issue date: 2/25/08 Section: Opinion
I suppose it's best to begin by revealing a little about myself. I, Robert Dora, was born on February 19, 1987. I'm currently a junior and a software engineering major. My birthday freshman year is a little hazy, but I remember my sophomore year birthday very well.
February 19 was the day that the food poisoning/virus spread throughout Potsdam. I was only conscious for about three hours that day. I spent the rest of the day being violently ill. Finally, I asked my roommate to pick me up some anti-nausea medication from Kinney's, and he did. Unfortunately, the medicine had expired. However, using my Clarkson Gene, and physical superiority, I was able to overcome the illness.
February 19, 2008 is a much more recent memory for most of us. This memory is especially vivid for students that live on the first floors of Price Hall. Water raced throughout the dorms located on these floors this past Tuesday evening. Some of my textbooks were damaged as a result. The University originally instructed me to check my homeowner's insurance policy about whether I could be reimbursed. Unfortunately, there are clauses to these policies. At a certain point I am removed from the policy. This point happens to be on the day I turn twenty-one, which also happened to be the day the flood occurred.
I'm not sure whether or not this curse emanates from Clarkson or me. Regardless, it seems to fall on the same day every year. It's up to us to be ready for it next year. So far we've seen plagues and floods, so there are many hurdles left for us to jump over. Fires, earthquakes, and locusts are all likely options, but who can say what'll happen? At least we know when.
