Kurt Naser took third in the slalom and, combined with his performance on Friday, finished first in the overall standings to lead the Clarkson University Men's Alpine Ski team to a first-place finish at the USCSA Mideast Regional Championships and a trip to the USCSA National Championships.
The Golden Knights finished first in the slalom as a team and won the overall title. The women performed better on Saturday with a fourth-place finish in the slalom, but came up short in the combined standings with a tie for fourth. Clarkson's men, along with women's skier Meghan Cleason, who qualified for the nationals with a third-place finish in the combined standings, will compete in the USCSA National Championships starting on March 3 in Sunday River, ME.
Cleason placed third in both the slalom and giant slalom for a third overall showing, becoming the first Clarkson female skier to qualify for the nationals since 1993. Other top finishers for the Knights were senior Mallory Gilmore, who came in fourteenth in the slalom, senior Margot Epstein, who placed eighteenth, and Emma Masur, who finished forty-sixth.
On the men's side, the Knights will compete in the nationals for the second straight season with their first-place finish. Naser came in first overall, but was aided in the team score by sophomore Nick Skowyra, who came in fifth, freshman Clayton Reynolds, who was eighth, sophomore Drew Bonner, who came in eleventh, and Rob Reed, who finished in forty-first.
