Every Monday, like clockwork, I see several people in my classes with a Clarkson Integrator. Some are doing the Sudoku or crossword puzzles, some are seeing what people got in trouble this week in the police blotters, and some are catching up on things that happened on campus.

McCain's Vice Presidential running mate, Alaskan governor Sarah Palin, is being endorsed as a "pro-family" and "pro-women" candidate, but recently investigated statistics may suggest otherwise. Alaska has a negative reputation for abuse cases, making Palin's state one of the "most dangerous places in the country for women and children" (Rood, ABC News).

The federal government should legalize all drugs, from marijuana to heroin and crack to PCP, for a number of reasons. First-off, if drugs were legalized, they would fall under the watchful eye of the FDA, which would enforce strict purity restrictions, keeping toxins out of the drugs.

Our country has a substance abuse problem and legalizing drugs will not solve it. It seems as though people everywhere are calling for an end to the "war on drugs," saying that legalizing drugs will make it possible for the government to regulate their usage, similar to the way that we regulate tobacco and alcohol, and that way we can help people make smarter decisions.

As everyone knows, the cost of living, especially in the North Country, has been increasing dramatically over the past year. From putting gas in the car to heating your home to everyday necessities, all people are feeling a crunch in their wallets. This is also true for our Neighborhood Centers and Food Pantries.

Currently students at Clarkson are required to take courses covering each of six knowledge areas (KA). Each course is supposed to fulfill certain learning goals or "spirit" (as it is referred to in the 2007-08 KA Guidelines document) in each category. The categories include titles such as contemporary and global issues (CGI) and science, technology, and society (STS).

I am writing this article to express my most sincere gratitude to Campus Safety and Clarkson for looking out for me. There is a saying that goes "all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy." Campus Safety seems to have taken this to heart. What I mean to say is that I am paying more than $40,000 per year to attend Clarkson and sometimes I get a little carried away with my work.
